2008 Ice Cream Social and Raffle

The weather cooperated and on August 3 an enthusiastic crowd attended the last event of the summer in the Library gardens. Home baked cake, beverages and ice cream were enjoyed and an ensemble of musicians provided entertainment in the gazebo.

At 8 p.m., the raffle drawing was performed by Library Director Michael Burnett and the lucky ticket holders went home with a variety of outstanding gifts. This has always been a very popular community event and makes possible a large contribution from the Friends toward Library holdings and services.

How many tickets?                                                                      Chocolate or vanilla?

I'll take that piece!                                                                        A little light music!

View of the lake!                                                                        A perfect day!

24th. Annual Meeting of the Friends

Steve Engelhart, Executive Director of Adirondack Architectural Heritage, spoke to the Friends about the various architectural styles represented by Adirondack buildings; ranging from churches, factories and businesses to homes and the Great Camps which fluorished in the early 1900s. He pointed out that among the many factors influencing the construction were ethnic origins of the inhabitants and proximity to water and the railroads. His slide presentation was well received by the enthusiastic audience on June 4 in the Margaret Hamm Room of the Library.
