[1 week] Videos and DVD's: popular movies as well as health and history videos.
[3 weeks] Beginning 1/1/07; free downloadable audio books through NetLibrary.com.

Once you have completed the registration and have selected your User Name and Password, you can login directly to the Net Library website to view and download the available eAudiobooks.
Note: Books to be transferred to your portable music player should be selected from the eAudiobooks list, not the eBooks list.
You can view a list (PDF) of Tested Players that are compatible with NetLibrary eAudiobooks. The principle requirements are:
- must be able to play secure or protected WMA files with built in (DRM) Digital Rights Management for copy protection and usage restrictions,
- must be compatible with Windows Media Player version 9 (WMP v9) or higher,
- must pass the NetLibrary longplay standard; must be able to play a track with duration of 18 hours or longer
- must have bookmarking capability.
Some of the popular media players do not meet all the NetLibrary requirements so be sure to check the "Tested Players".
[2 weeks] The Mohawk Valley Library System and its member libraries have begun to purchase and circulate PLAYAWAYS.
A PLAYAWAY is a self-playing digital audio book that comes pre-loaded on a small storage device. Each PLAYAWAY can hold content that ranges from 6 to 24 hours of play time, and circulates like any audio book for 2 weeks. The PLAYAWAY is controlled by 8 buttons that allow the listener to turn the device on and off, control the speed of the narrator's voice, and digitally bookmark up to 50 spots. A standard AAA battery (provided with each 'book') and headphones are necessary for use. There are also methods by which the PLAYAWAY can be heard through your car's speakers.
